Visit The Jewels of The Endless Mountains
Bradford,
Wyoming, Sullivan
and Susquehanna Counties
The
Endless Mountains lie in a beautiful land of gently rolling hills and
lush green valleys. An amazing network of state, county and township
roads tunnel through leafy forests of hardwoods, pine and hemlock, and
tempt you to stop beside quiet brooks and tumbling waterfalls.
Susquehanna
County (population 40,380)) was created on February 21, 1810, from part
of Luzerne County. Montrose is the county seat. Susquehanna County,
located in the Northeast corner of the Endless Mountains, covers 535,040
acres of mountainous country-side. The County was named for the North
branch of the Susquehanna River, which first enters Pennsylvania in the
Northeastern corner of the county, makes a loop and re-enters New York
approximately 27 miles to the West. Sixty percent of the County's land
area is covered with forest. There are 169 natural water bodies and
approximately 225 miles of flowing streams many of which are habitat for
native trout.
Wyoming
County (population 28,000) was created on April 4, 1842, from part of
Luzerne County and named for the Wyoming Valley. Wyoming is derived from
an Indian word meaning extensive meadows. Tunkhannock, the county seat,
was incorporated a a borough on August 8, 1841 and was named for
Tunkhannock Creek. The creek's name means small stream. Located in the
northeast corner of Pennsylvania, Wyoming County combines the rural
splendor of the Endless Mountains with the beauty of the meandering
Susquehanna River, all within easy reach of many metropolitan areas. The
recreational opportunities available in Wyoming County are boundless.
The vast amount of open space and natural scenery has always provided
excellent areas for such activities as picnicking, hiking, camping,
hunting, horseback riding, or snowmobiling. The numerous bodies of water
located throughout the county are among the best boating and fishing in
Pennsylvania
Bradford
County's lush green mountains, quiet lakes and shimmering streams have
challenged hunters and fishermen alike. When families plan their
vacations to this region, they experience country-style living, quaint
villages, fascinating shops and the rewards of breathtaking vistas.
While traveling, visit the many historic sites, some with international
intrigue. In the many parks you may canoe, bike or hike, free to enjoy
the adventures spring and summer.
