Lessons - Civil War Timeline The 3,500 acre Military Park is a national park that includes the battlefields of the most decisive and bloodiest conflict of the Civil War. Start at the Visitor Center and Gettysburg Museum of the Civil War, which offers free maps and a permanent electric display that uses lights to show the deployment of the forces during the battle's various skirmishes. Continue your historic journey at the Cyclorama Center, which has exhibits, a free film, and the Cyclorama itself--a monumental painting-in-the-round by Paul Phillippoteaux of General Pickett's charge, the last ditch effort of the Confederate forces before their retreat; the multimedia presentation includes a sound and light program
