Street Fairs in 
New York City

From Spring until Fall, street fairs are held in all parts of Manhattan. 
Many are small only a block or two long but some are up to mile long. 
The larger fairs are on the main avenues, the smaller, neighborhood rummage-type offerings are up and down side streets.  the entertainment, games and most of all, tons of homemade and ethnic foods. There are  live bands performing somewhere in the middle area. Larger fairs will often have several bands. One of the largest, and most popular, is Ninth Avenue International Food Festival held each May but there are smaller, neighborhood fairs to check out on upcoming trips to the city. 

My favorite fair is the Feast of San Gennaro. That's when the zeppole-loving (that's a pastry) Italian in me used to spring out and i had to feed it to keep it quiet.  Over 3 million people gather in the streets for this 11-day feast.  My parents would take us there every year, we lived within walking distance of Little Italy. This year, the feast will be held on September 13th thru the 23rd. It is held along Mulberry Street between Canal and Houston Streets in Little Italy. the big thing is the huge selection of Italian foods and delicacies. But there are vendors and games, music and lots of activities. You can sit outside the trattorias at a table and hang out watching the crowds go by.
